How To Dress Large Windows At Home
Maximising the amount of natural light that floods your home is the dream for one and all. As useful as electricity is, there’s nothing quite like using nature to showcase your interior design schemes and having large windows throughout the house really helps to bring everything to life… as well as giving you unrivalled access to beautiful views outside.
However, as showstopping as large windows most certainly are, they can pose something of an issue when it comes to which drapes, curtains and blinds to choose. If you get it wrong, you’ll have an expensive mistake to live with, so it’s always worth taking your time to review different patterns, colours, fabrics and styles before parting ways with any cash.
You also need to factor in privacy concerns. The bigger your windows are, the easier it will be for passersby to see into your house, so retaining control over light and privacy is an absolute must.
If privacy is your top concern and you don’t want anything too bulky, one of your best options for fabric is sheer curtains. These won’t block the light out and they’ll create a lovely warming glow as the sun shines through the material. They’re also lightweight in nature, which makes them a very cost-effective choice for bigger windows – a top option for anyone on a budget.
Sheer curtains would work particularly well in the kitchen and dining room, or perhaps the bathroom if there’s sufficient space between the window and the bathtub.
Elsewhere in the house, blackout blinds might be more appropriate, such as the living room. Typically, people opt for thicker window dressings in this part of the home so they can relax and unwind without worrying that you can see into the room from the outside.
Blackout blinds and thick curtains would have similar effects here, making sure that you don’t compromise on the functionality of the space while delivering on the aesthetic perspectives, as well.
Something else to bear in mind with larger windows is how easy curtains and drapes are to use. Of course, you can have curtain rods installed and have drapes fitted to these that can slide back and forth, but if your windows are significant in size, you may soon get tired of having to do it all manually… in which case, automated blinds would be a great choice.
These products can be linked up to your home automation systems so you can control them via an app or even use your voice. No more having to pull the curtains open and closed each morning and night… simply say the magic words and hey presto! You’re ready to rock and roll, no matter the time of day or night!
