Finishing touches to a West London home
Location: Elegant family home in Notting Hill, W11
Brief: Provide a dual privacy and blackout solution without overpowering the room.
Our customer came back to us to dress the patio doors leading to her garden as the last stage in our project to dress the windows of doors in her whole home renovations. It is a beautiful Victorian terraced house and is a fine example of the tall ceilings and wonderful light-filled properties in the area.
Content with the curtains we had previously provided this time the project brief was to dress the patio doors leading to the garden with a simple Marianne curtain in a single pleat heading breaking softly on the floor. The space can be used for overnight guests so blackout roller blinds were included as a discreet option to limit the daylight. Lining Marianne would add weight and alter its movement, keeping the curtains unlined respects the natural airiness of the space and avoid extra bulk when the curtains are open.
The soft feminine look of Marianne in Petal was an immediate draw but with careful consideration the final decision rested on Mist, a mineral grey, as it works harmoniously with the room scheme.
The challenge in this design was to offer a contemporary solution for a curved wall in a way which would complement the architecture and use of the room. We choose a track hanging system which can be bent on-site to a gradual curve so as to follow the lines of the room more naturally. The curtains are hooked to hide the track creating great vertical lines that give a sense of height. For a clean, no fuss, finish we opted for a large single pair of curtains rather than a pair per door and extended the track either side of the exterior doors to maximise natural light in the lower ground room.
The client was happy with the end result which we feel perfectly fits the brief of creating a contemporary look fit for the space. For more ideas on how to dress your patio or bi-fold doors see our Design Ideas.
