Organza Voile Curtains: Perfect For Airy Interiors

Over the last few years, interior design schemes have been very dominated by thick and luxuriously heavy drapes… and, of course, these will always have their place in certain parts of the house, but it seems that there’s change in the air right now, with people increasingly drawn to more delicate and lightweight fabrics, like voile and lace.

These materials work particularly well in places like the bathroom, where you want to ensure a certain level of privacy but don’t want anything thick or heavy over the windows that will soak up moisture quickly. Sheer curtains are also a great option for dressing bifold doors, particularly if you want to blur the transition between your indoor and outdoor spaces.

The good news is that you can easily embrace the airy look and feel that lace delivers by using voile curtains, which are sheer, lightweight and translucent, allowing diffused light to enter the space without compromising on privacy.

A popular fabric for these window dressings is organza, a plain-woven sheer fabric that’s traditionally made from silk, but which can also be made from other synthetic materials like nylon or polyester (the more durable options that don’t compromise on the delicate nature of the fabric).

Interestingly, the word ‘organza’ comes from the word ‘organzine’, relating to the process of making silk threads by twisting silk fibres together. The fabric made its way to Europe from China via the Silk Road, a network of trade routes that connected China with the west and which was active from the second century all the way through to the mid-15th century.

It’s in incredibly popular fabric, not just for curtains but also for luxurious high-fashion gowns and wedding dresses!

So, with all this in mind, if you’re looking to give your home a little bit of a refresh over the coming months, bringing in a little bit of organza here and there could well be the way to go about it!
