Curtains for French Windows London SW13
This recent project involved dressing two sets of French windows in the living / dining room of a London SW13 home. The French windows open out into the garden and terrace and would therefore need to remain freely accessible.
Our brief was as follows: our client wanted to integrate the two wall-hanging radiators which are on the same walls as the French windows. The aim was to bring these radiators more into the overall colour scheme of the room rather than having them stand out. The actual living room décor is very much in clean, contemporary beige accents with notes of grey. Our client also wanted to introduce an element of contrast to these beige-grey tones while still maintaining a contemporary feel. And of course, as in most cases, we needed to retain as much light in the room as possible while still affording privacy.
The curtains are a made with a voile fabric called Lexi in colour Pewter. Lexi is a heavier voile (or net curtain) but as a voile, it will always be lighter than actual cotton or linen curtains. This has massive implications for light. Lexi is a very contemporary voile fabric. It is a metallic, open basket mesh-weave mixture. The fabric has dark and light aspects to it, which can be seen in the close-up image below. As it is a voile, it provides privacy without losing the light.
The voile curtains are hung on a distinction pole with a contemporary Wave heading (e.g. without rings – the curtain hangs directly on the pole). This hanging style helps the curtains with easy stacking and avoids the necessity of pleating.
