Heavy Linens: Ideal For Autumnal Decorating
Now the weather’s starting to close in and the nights are getting longer, we’re all sure to start spending more time inside, getting cosy and enjoying snuggling up at home with the family. It is hygge season, after all!
For those of you thinking about making some seasonal interior design changes at home to help you make it through to spring in one piece, you might want to consider switching out your light summery curtains for something in a thicker, weightier fabric, something like heavy linen.
Interestingly, you’ll be at the very forefront of fashion if you do, as heavy linen and thick tweed were both identified as two of the biggest autumn/winter 2024 trends at this year’s London Design Festival, which took place between September 14th and 22nd.
But as well as being an incredibly stylish addition to your home, what is it about linen that makes it perfect as a curtain choice for autumn?
Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, the fabric is a particularly good insulator, which means that it will help keep the bitter winter chill out, ensuring that your living spaces stay lovely and cosy no matter what’s happening outside.
And don’t forget that its insulation properties also work wonders during summer, as well, helping to keep your home cool – so you may not want to take your linen curtains down, even when the weather does start to improve.
It’s also easy to use the material throughout the home, as it works very well in both formal and informal settings, so you can dress your dining room and bedrooms up to perfection, as well as your conservatories, sun rooms, kitchens and bathrooms… anywhere you need a set of curtains, in fact!
Linen will always be a good investment to make at home, as it’s durable and hard-wearing, so your curtains will certainly stand the test of time. It can also help keep your home more hygienic, as it boasts a looser weave that traps fewer allergen particles – great for this time of year when you naturally spend more time indoors.
In terms of autumnal colours, trending shades for 2024 include the usual navy blues, burgundies and browns, of course, but also some more vibrant shades, including mustard, buttery yellow, aqua, pink, sky blue and spearmint, so you could create a really showstopping seasonal look just by being a bit bold with your colour choices.
The even better news is that linen isn’t just good for curtains, it can be used to excellent effect in other parts of the house, as well. It’s a great choice for bedding, tablecloths, table runners and napkins, upholstery and home decor items like lampshades… so you could have a wonderful time celebrating this particular fabric at home.
