The Top 5 Curtain Trends For 2026 Revealed

Homeowners or landlords who are looking to update their property in 2026 could really benefit from replacing their curtains or blinds, as this small change can make a big difference to the overall aesthetic of a room.

In this case, they will want to know what the hottest trends are for curtains this year, so they invest in furnishings that will make their property look as stylish as possible.

Here is our list of curtain trends that will be huge in 2026:

1) Neutral, earthy colours

In previous years, light greys and whites were popular curtain colours. However, we’re steering away from these pale, clinical shades and moving towards warmer tones.

While grey was the interior colour of choice in the 2010s, designers are now opting for more vibrant choices.

Gail David from Gail Davis Design told Good Housekeeping: “While grey is neutral and soothing for some, we live in colour. I want to live where colour saturates a space, and I share this with clients. Colour is exciting, and we should be excited to live life.”

Instead of grey, renovators should consider warm, earthy colours, such as terracotta, sand, olive, browns. These shades are still neutral, and therefore will go with pretty much any splash of colour from furniture and furnishings, but they make the room feel more calming and welcoming.

2) Bold colours

At the same time, bold colours will be popular in 2026, enabling designers to add a bright shade to their room simply by updating their furnishings.

This allows people to experiment with vibrant shades without having to repaint the walls, and they can build their confidence with colour gradually.

It also gives them a cost-effective opportunity to transform a space, whether they are turning a spare room into a study or swapping bedrooms between children.

Colour blocking is a great way to add personality and drama to a room to really make the most of the transformation.

When it comes to choosing a bold shade in 2026, consider jewel tones, such as sapphire, emerald, gold or burgundy. This adds an air of luxury as well as colour.

3) Floor to ceiling

Interior design in 2026 is all about character and drama. Therefore, homeowners and landlords should not be afraid to go for a bold choice with their curtains, not just in terms of colour or pattern, but also with regards to its size.

Instead of choosing a curtain that fits the window perfectly, this year is all about full-length curtains.

This gives the appearance of higher ceilings and a more elaborate, luxurious finish.

Floor-to-ceiling curtains really allow them to stand out and make a feature of the window, especially when coupled with wave headings, and detailed curtain holdbacks.

3) Cafe-style curtains

Cafe curtains became popular in 2025, but they will become more commonplace this year.

These curtains only reach half the height of the window, enabling light to flood the room while still allowing for some privacy inside.

At the same time as providing warmth to a room, they also offer openness, so people can enjoy a view and feel connected to the outdoors.

These are particularly popular in kitchens and bathrooms where you might not want passersby peering in, but you don’t want to shut out the natural light for several hours a day.

Choosing a light fabric also works well with cafe curtains, as the sunlight can shine through the material even when they are closed.

When picking cafe curtains, make sure to go for a slim curtain pole to go across the window, as this will not be so imposing.

4) Natural fabrics

Sustainability is a huge factor in consumer behaviour these days, with 82 per cent of buyers saying they now consider it more when it comes to making purchases than they did before 2020.

That is why homeowners and landlords are increasingly making sustainable choices with their interior design. For curtains, this means they are looking for natural fabrics, such as linen, linen blends, cotton and recycled fibres.

They are also considering fabrics that are designed to last and styles that will stand the test of time.

That is why there might be a shift towards more neutral patterns that will suit any change in wall colour or decor, as opposed to bold prints that might not be en vogue in a few years.

5) Decorative trims

A new style for 2026 is a curtain with a decorative trim, bordering all four edges of the fabric. This can help something simple and neutral leave a bigger impression without the need for bright shades or vibrant patterns.

The size, style and colour of the trim will depend on the rest of the interior design. If you have a sleek, narrow border, for instance, this makes the room feel more elegant and sophisticated.

A wide, brightly-coloured trim, on the other hand, can add a playful touch to the interior design.

The good thing with getting bespoke curtains is you can tailor the fabric exactly according to your wishes, giving you a unique window dressing that nobody else has.
