5 Seasonal Decorating Tips In Time For Autumn

5 Seasonal Decorating Tips In Time For Autumn

While it may well feel like we’ve not had much of a summer, with a few short snippets of lovely warm weather over the last few months, it’s always exciting to feel the seasons change… and it represents an excellent opportunity to refresh and revitalise your home interiors, breathing new life into your living spaces as the temperature starts to drop.

Autumn is a wonderful time of year, filled with beautiful colours and stunning natural light, so it’s hardly surprising so many of you make little style switches here and there throughout the house to chime in with this seasonal shift.

You’re sure to find huge inspiration from the natural world to inform your design ideas at home, but we thought we’d lend a helping hand to those of you keen to redecorate right now… so here are some top seasonal style tips from the Pret A Vivre team to ensure you get off on the right foot. Enjoy!

1. Switch out the curtains

If it’s a quick seasonal win you’re after, changing the curtains in your various rooms can make a huge difference to how your spaces look and feel. Because we’re heading into the colder months of the year, consider bringing in weightier fabrics that will help trap the heat in your home, keeping you nice and snug no matter what’s happening outside.

2. Bring in warmer colours

Take a look out of the window over the next few weeks and you’ll see a dazzling array of different colours that would work wonders throughout the house. Yellows, oranges and reds are staple autumnal shades that will engender a sense of warmth and cosiness at home, keeping those winter blues at bay.

3. Soften your lighting schemes

The days are getting shorter and the nights darker and longer, so now’s the time to start embracing the Danish concept of hygge, where you design your home in such a way to promote comfort and contentment. Dimming the lights and creating a stunning ambient glow at home will mean you don’t mind the lack of sunshine quite so much.

4. Think texture, texture, texture

Snuggling up on the sofa is sure to start to take centre stage over the coming weeks and months, so up the cosy factor with lots of natural textures and materials, everything from wool and velvet to faux fur… you’ll thoroughly enjoy bunkering down until spring with all your cushions, throws and rugs!

5. Choose your fragrances wisely

Creating a cosy atmosphere at home isn’t just about what your living rooms look like… it’s also about how they smell. It’s very easy to create a warm and welcoming autumnal ambience throughout the house with carefully chosen fragrances.

Opt for the likes of pumpkin spice, frankincense, spiced orange, patchouli, amber, cinnamon and clove, and you’ll love nothing more than hiding out at home until the uptick in the weather returns.
