4 FAQs About Bottom Up Blinds

Deciding on the right kind of window treatment can be difficult as there are so many options and so many decisions to make. Before you know it, you find yourself paralysed, unable to make any choices at all.

The key is to do as much research into the various options available so you can see what will work best for the windows you have, taking into account practicality, light, privacy, material and so on.

One popular choice of window treatment these days is bottom up blinds, which are currying serious favour among homeowners the length and breadth of the country because they allow you to enjoy both privacy and natural light at the same time, all without having to lift the blind the whole way up.

To help you decide if these are the right blinds for you, here are just four frequently asked questions about these kinds of window dressings. Have a read and see what you think. And don’t forget – we’re always on hand to answer any other questions you might have, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Pret A Vivre team if you need any further guidance.

Q: How do bottom up blinds work?

A: As the name might suggest, these blinds work by pulling the blind up from the fixed point at the bottom of the window. This is typically located on the window sill, the wall or the window surround. Brackets are used to secure the blinds in place, which can be fitted to a range of materials including pVC, wood and concrete.

Pulleys are installed that move the blinds up and down, holding them in position through the use of a hook at your chosen resting point. You can secure the blind at any point on the window, giving you complete control.

Q: What fabrics can you use with bottom up blinds?

A: Ultimately, any fabric can be used with these blinds, giving you amazing versatility of choice. However, if you want to maximise the amount of light flooding the space, voile fabrics are the best – especially if you’re not worried about privacy. To make your home more private, go with a dim out fabric, while a blackout fabric would be best for bedrooms.

Q: Can you use bottom up blinds on any type of window?

A: The good news is that these blinds work well on practically any kind of window shape or size. They’re a very popular option for bay windows, so don’t be deterred if you’ve got an awkward or very large space to cover.

Q: Can you automate bottom up blinds?

A: It is certainly possible to automate your new blinds and this is something you can discuss with the Pret A Vivre team if you’d like to find out more about the benefits of including your window treatments in your smart home system.
