Roller blinds & Voile Curtains for French Doors in London SW13

Our customer from Barnes, SW13 has a beautiful, south-facing open plan kitchen / dining area with direct access to the garden via charming double French doors. Lots of additional light floods into the room via a pair of large windows flanking either side of the French doors, thus creating a large glazed area!

While it’s hard to beat a bright, sun filled room, there are times when shade is required, sometimes more than others. This particular room receives a lot of sun indeed and at times, particularly when the family is seated around the table, our customer wanted a solution that would reduce the heat and glare.

Of course, it should in no way impede the free flow between the garden and the room and it should be flexible, shade requirements differing throughout the day and indeed through the seasons.

Our solution was to use a combination of individual roller blinds and voile curtains giving our customer an elegant solution with maximum flexibility yet in line with the existing décor. We used our new voile fabric Melissa in colour Steel Blue, offering protection from the sunlight without blocking it out. We used a Surf heading and 4 separate panels to give maximum flexibility to be able to pull curtains back and forward across the full width of the window.

Melissa is one of our new heavy weight voiles which are excellent for French doors, bi fold doors and other large glazed areas. Melissa will filter strong daylight and create a warmer feel indoors when it’s dark outside, thereby avoiding the big black hole syndrome that people with bi fold doors often suffer from.

The voiles are hung on a Distinction Pole in Farrow & Ball colour Shaded White with Surf heading (same as a Silent Gliss heading). The roller blinds are Texas paper.

The fabric shades were carefully selected to match the décor of the room – the walls are Farrow & Ball Strong White and the kitchen units in Farrow & Ball Manor House Grey.
