Measuring for curtains:

Width
Measure the width of your pole between the finials or your track (including any overlap)
If you have neither a pole nor track, mark with a pencil on the wall the intended position of the track or pole and take measurements from this line. The track or pole is usually positioned 12cm (5”) above the window and 15cm (6”) either side of the window to allow the curtain to be pulled right back.

Length

Pencil, Gathered, Chef’s Cap, King Pleat, Pelmet, Pinch Pleat or Goblet headings
If your have a pole, measure from the eye on the pole ring.
If your have a track, measure from the top of the track.

Eyelet heading
measure from the top of the pole.

Channel, Tie Tops and Tab Tops headings
measure from the underside of the pole and note the diameter of the pole (we need it to work out the size of the channel or tabs or ties).

Finished length

You need to decide where you want the curtain to finish; the length is purely a matter of personal preference but we suggest:

- window sill: 1cm (or 0.5”) above
- below sill: at least 15cm (or 6”)
- to clear the floor: 1cm (or 0.5”) above floor level
- to break on the floor: add 3 to 5cm (or 1.5”)
- to pool on the floor: add 15cm (or 6”) - recommended for dress curtains only.

Measuring for Roman blinds

Decide where you will fit the baton: it can either sit inside the window recess, on the frame itself or above the window frame.

Width

Recess width:
Measure the inside of the recess in three places: top, middle and bottom; give us the narrowest width. Confirm your measurement as recess width, and we will allow for 1 or 2cm to avoid friction when pulling the blind up or down.

Blind width:
Measure the full width of the window frame if the blind is to be fitted to the window frame or if the blind is hung outside the recess or there is no frame, add a further 7cm either side so that the blind doesn’t let any light in. Please confirm this measurement as blind size.

Length
Measure from the top of where you will place the baton i.e. full length of the recess or the full length of the window frame.

Measuring for roller blinds

Width

Recess width
Measure the inside of the recess in three places: top, middle and bottom. Confirm the narrowest measurement as recess width.

Fabric width
If the blind is fitted outside a recess, you just need to measure the width you want the fabric to cover. We recommend that you add 7cm either side of the recess or window frame.

Beware: for bay windows, you need to allow for the size of the roll of fabric to ensure that the blinds do not touch at each bend. Do not hesitate to call for help.

For recess blinds, make sure you allow for tiled bottom sides of the window and specify as well if necessary the maximum fabric width.

Length

Length measurement includes the roll.
Measure from where the top of the roll will be or the full length of the recess.

Measuring for Venetian blinds

Width

Recess width
Measure the inside of the recess in three places: top, middle and bottom. Confirm your narrowest measurement as recess width.

Blind width
If the blind is fitted outside a recess, you just need to measure the width you want the blind to be. We recommend that you add 7cm either side of the recess or window frame.

Beware: for bay windows, you need to allow for the depth of the head rail (5cm) to ensure that the blind do not touch at each bend. Do not hesitate to call for help.

Valances (or pelmets to cover the head rail):
It is supplied as straight if the blind width is given as recess width.
If the blind is fitted outside a recess, you can request a valance with mitred returns to hide the sides of the head rail.

Length

Length measurement includes the head rail.
Measure from where the top of the head rail will be or the full length of the recess.
